Menu Plan Monday


Well it's time to pull out the big guns. Remember that giant turkey I got for $4 in November? It's coming out this week.

I also found out that my bread machine has a jam setting so I'll be trying some homemade jam for Sunday mornings breakfast.

And....for any of you that are making the homemade yogurt, I've refined my recipe a bit. I add about 1/4 cup more of powdered milk (makes it thicker like store bought) and I incubate it by setting a heating pad on my counter to low, setting my jar of yogurt mix on top of the heating pad and then putting a large pot over the top to make a mini heater. That way I don't tie up my oven for hours. It works perfectly and took exactly four hours. When I used the oven light and less powdered milk it took at least 8 hours to set up.

  2. My family loves those Buttery Bread Machine Rolls. I got the recipe from Motherload blog a while ago. I make them ahead of time, freeze them and take out what is needed for our meal. That way, I always have them on hand. . . hot and ready. Great with a bowl of soup too.

  6. Gayle, that's exactly how I've made my yogurt (except I wrap the jar in a towel before putting the pot on top) for years, and I've never had a failed batch. And I looked at that same recipe for Lemon Yogurt Muffins last night, but didn't have the lemon, so I made the Apple Yogurt ones I found and they are quite good! Great minds think alike! ;-)

  7. Do you get cabbage from your garden? I noticed hat you eat a lot of cabbage. Also, how do you get your kids to eat such a variety? I've got the world's pickiest kid, and another so-so-one, plus a picky husband. They're going ba in a world of hurt if this economy gets any worse. Well, no, they'll eat ramen!! LOL

  8. We do grow cabbage in our garden but this head is leftover from last weeks menu. The recipe I had planned for last week didn't get cooked because I had run out of flour for the Runza dough. So now it's getting carried over to this week.

I love the name Thanksgiving Memories- I am going to use that instead of turkey pot pie, or shepherd's pie or whatever I make to use up leftover turkey- I don't think I will trick my kids though, but it is worth a try. Probably if I added the stove top like in the recipe, they would be more enthused. Lots of nummy sounding menu plans here today Gayle! Have fun shopping.

  18. No streamlining. I just really like breakfast so I'm willing to do it. It's lunches I hate and just slap together or make the kids do it themselves. I bet you could put it together the night before and stick it in the fridge till morning, though.

  20. We just pulled out our enormous turkey and roasted it this week, too! My favorite after turkey soup is After-Thanksgiving-Turkey Soup. I've been salivating at the mere thought and the broth is bubbling away on the stove as I type. Mmmmm....

  21. I'm totally going to make the Baked Polenta recipe. I have a tube of premade stuff from Trader Joe's that I bought for some reason I can't remember and my husband will eat anything with feta in it. Can you post an update on how your family receives it? I get the best ideas from your blog!
