Bedroom Remodel Breakdown

Just because I like to crunch numbers and be thrifty (I'm such a geek) I’m going to break down the cost of remodeling my little boys shared bedroom.

Free Stuff (already had around the house)

Blue Paint left over from another project, used on one wall
White Paint for trim, built ins, door
Light Blue Curtains saved from my daughters room after her last color change.

Purchased

1 curtain rod $9.99
2 pairs of matching sheets $18.00
2 gallons of tan paint $11
2 matching rugs $39.98
New hardware for built-in cupboards and drawers $5

Total $83.97 - using e-bay earnings so it really wasn't out of pocket.

I wish I had a better before picture but just envision this… (You can kind of see a before picture over here, 2nd one down.)

Blue blanket nailed over the window for 5 years and ripped down so many times that it had holes in all the corners.(I’m so embarrassed to admit that) Pale green walls, filthy with handprints and pen marks. (blech) Old trim and built in cupboards from the 1970’s that was an orange stained color. Mismatched sheets…green camo and bright blue/orange Finding Nemo. Piles of junk everywhere!

To this…

gayle,
I love it! We just did some painting in our home as well. It's amazing how much better it makes you feel. I love your blog. You really inspire me.

Where did you find such a long curtain rod for under $10? I was just looking at JCP and they were much more than that. Thanks!

We have large, hard to find, window lengths so whenever I went to town I would check at Ross's (a local discount home furnishings store) to see if they had one in my size. It took a few weeks but I happened to find ONE.
