Menu Plan Monday and Weekly Grocery Shopping Trip

We are back into the swing of things. Last week half of my family was gone on vacation with their Grandma and it was just weird around here. I didn’t know how to cook for just three people. But things are back to normal and my kitchen is working the way it’s supposed to.

Breakfasts

Amish Baked Oatmeal
Breakfast Salad
Gingerbread Scones and Fruit
Fig Muffins from the freezer
Pancakes
Scrambled eggs and toast
Plain Oatmeal

Dinners

Crockpot Chicken (thighs thrown in with bottled marinade) Brown Rice and salad
Mexican Penne and canned corn
Crustless Broccoli and Cottage Cheese Pie and salad
Spaghettie and garden salad
Sloppy Joes (cooked in the crockpot) and french fries
Baked Potato Night
Leftover Night

1 gallon soy milk $3.98
Cottage Cheese $1.99
4 cups shredded cheddar $4.58
Frozen French Fries $1.29
Bleach $1.18
Huge Pack of Chicken Drumsticks $3.90
Bananas $1.85
Brown sugar in bulk $1.45
Broccoli $1.55
4 lbs vanilla yogurt $3.36
Quick-oats in bulk $1.47
Hamburger buns $1.58
Tomatoes $2.71
Apples $3.04
Strawberries $1.98
4 lightbulbs $1.84
Giant Salsa $2.99
Granola $1.99
Pasta $.69
Bandaids $.99

Total $44.41

I found myself under budget this week so I used the extra money to look for low cost meat for my freezer. What I found was a jumbo pack of chicken drumsticks. I like to try and keep a surplus of sale meats in the freezer for weeks where my purchases are higher and I can’t afford to buy more meat. BUT only when I’m below budget do I every buy extra to stash.

Oh, and the recipe swap this Friday will NOT be themed. Just post whatever recipe your heart desires.

hey there! My name is Amanda my husband and I just moved to MASS to attend Seminary. As you can imagine we are on a tight budget. Me being the only income at the time. I respect your efforts to really be a Proverbs 31 woman in all areas of your life. It is hard to find women who value these things and are not chasing after the things of the world. I have to admit its hard to stay on budget. We have strayed from our budget when we lived down south we had two incomes and since the move things have been crazy moving and settling in. Any tips how to get started again?

You never cease to amaze me. But do you EVER order a pizza? I suppose that would blow the budget to smitherenes, huh? No idea how to spell smitherines, btw.

Way to go for coming in under the wire! I am so envious of the availability of discount grocery stores where you are. We have NONE, ZERO, ZIP. The closest one I know of is 2 hours away, so that is not worth it, especially since you never know what they're going to have.

like danielle i'm a new reader and not only that a newly titled sahm since my family of 5 just relocated to a new state where my husband got a new job so i am VERY focused on trying to find ways to stretch one income to feed 5 mouths - yikes! scary going from 2 incomes to one!! we're strict money folk so i'll have to budget that recommended book into my alloted spending next month - can't wait to read it!!!!
thanks for inspiring us all - keep on blogging!!

I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and I LOVE it. I wanted to ask...how to you get soymilk for so "cheap"? I pay $2.99 here per half gallon and my children go through 8-10 half gallons a week. Thanks!

The Mexican Penne looks yummy! Thanks for posting your menu...I still haven't figured out how you get such good prices at the grocery store though...

I love your blog -- I've been trying to do some of the same things (menu planning/budget shopping). So far so good!
