Weekly Shopping Trip and Menu Plan Monday

Last week it was Hot Hot Hot here. The thought of actually turning on my oven, bread machine or crockpot made me sweat to just think about it. So I ended up scrapping some of our dinner meals for cold stuff from the fridge. This just means I already have the ingredients for some of the recipes I’ll carry over to this week.

Breakfast

Pancakes
Apple Scones
Yogurt Parfaits
Microwave Poached Eggs on Toast
Oatmeal
Apple Pie Muffins
Fend for your yourself day

Dinners

Lentil Veggie Soup with Buttery Bread Machine Rolls
Bierocks and green salad
Crockpot Mac & Cheese (recipe adjusted to use all powdered milk and no salt) Tomato Salad (chopped tomatoes marinated in balsamic vinegar)
Potluck where we’ll be bringing grated cheese and lettuce for a Burrito Bar (kids at home will have brats and tater tots)
Lentil Tacos (but we’ll use tortillas instead of taco shells)
Chicken and Rice Casserole (I’ll post this recipe on Friday)
Leftover Night

Here’s the breakdown...

24 double rolls of toilet paper $9.58
4 boxes of cake mix @ $.79 each (cheaper than homemade) $3.16
3 loaves of potato bread and 2 bags of small bagels $4.70
2 loaves of diet bread $3.58
1 bag of large whole wheat bagels FREE
Tortillas $2.19
Bratwurst $1.99
Tater Tots $.99
Giant bottle of conditioner $2.99
24 pack of Ramen Noodles $3.49
Ant Killer $3.16
2 tubs of yogurt $3.76
2 boxes of margarine $1.36
2 vanilla soy milk $3.56
Grapes $2.41
Lightbulbs $3.56
Bulk 1.63 lbs chocolate chips $3.26
3 lb Bananas 1.74
Bulk .78 lb soy flour $.77
Roma Tomatoes $1.72
Bulk 2.63 lbs popcorn $1.97
Apples $4.87
Bulk .85lbs Granola $1.34
Bulk 1.63 lbs powdered milk $5.10

Total $71.25

I hate it when I’m in the $70 range, it makes me feel like I’ve failed. But that’s life. I guess I’m not perfect.

Dang it!

Blame it on the t.p.
I haven't figured out a homemade solution for that either that hasn't left me squiriming.

Thank you soo much for your blog!! My friend, Kristie, told me about you. I would be thrilled at $70 a week. I made my list and it will be about $150 a week, if i am careful. I have one in diapers, and two 6 feet tall teens, and hubby and I. We go through 10 gallons of milk a week! Thanks for the wonderful ideas!
Also i had to laugh, antkiller is on my list this week too!

Love the menu!! It was actually cooler here last week, we had the ac off and the windows WIDE open. We'll see how this week goes. I hate to turn the AC on and just cost more electricity, but I won't be miserable, either... maybe it will stay cool!

Yeah.. blame it on the TP. LOL.

The menu looks really good. I espeically like the apple scones. My husband and I just made homemade ant bait with Borax and sugar. Hopefully it saved us a little bit of money.

But $19.62 of that stuff is inedible...personally I think you did awesome!

I just tried the recipe for crock pot potato chowder. My family love it. Thanks for the wonderful recipe ideas.

If you do look at $19.62 being inedible, then for food you only spent $51.63...for a family of six!! So yep, you did great. And just think, next week you'll probably be low, and that will make you feel really good!

Okay, I have to ask - what do you do about lunch? And snacks? That's a huge part of my budget.

Just found your site through MPM and love it! Your recipes look delicious and it's quite impressive you spend as little as you do for your family of six. Good job and I look forward to reading more.

I am new to reading your blog and I have to say I'm very impressed. I live in a limited budget and am always looking for creative ways to save money on household things, as well as easy ways to prepare meals. I left you an award on my blog site. I wish you continued success in your writings.
