GCC Shopping Round Up

***Don't Forget To Enter The Giveaway HERE!***

Now, I remember why we don't eat cereal. Did you know that one teeny tiny box of cookie crisp is over $4? Holy Moly! That's one bowl of cereal for each of my four kids. $4 for one non-nutritious meal that will leave them hungry again an hour later. But....it's a fun treat, especially for a birthday breakfast.

I have to admit, I seriously considered NOT fulfilling that birthday wish for my daughter. I think I probably stood in that cereal aisle for 20 minutes trying to decide whether I was going to go through with it or not. You see, the problem with frugality is that when you fully adopt it, it changes the way you think about purchases. You feel a little bit more of a responsibility with your money and it's really hard to intentionally make a purchase that you know is a splurge.

Do you find that happens to you too?

I bought one pound of deli roast beef yesterday at husband's request. $6.99/#. *blink* I paid $5.75 for an entire ham the day before. It was painful, but I did it.

I think it is funny that most kids would be all about the pancakes and waffles if they got to chose a b-day breakfast, but your kids go bananas over the cold cereal!

My husband's family has a tradition that the birthday boy/girl received a box of junk cereal, just that one time for the entire year. It's something my husband always looks forward to, and his family still sends him a box of cereal, even though we're half the country apart!

This is probably be one time when coupons would come in handy. It seems that I see a lot of General Mills coupons for cereal.

When we were kids our big food splurge was TV dinners! I remember being at a hotel at the beach and getting them to eat there. What a Day!! :)

Maybe you should have just made tiny cookies and then poured milk over them. Just kidding. :) What a special day for them.

Isn't that absolutely nuts for cereal??? I usually try to get it when I have a coupon, however, I don't really like my kids having to much junk cereal to often.

Nope, doesn't happen to me 'cause your sister does the shopping.

If you have an Albertson's near you, they are having a cereal sale and Cookie Crisp is on sale for $1.50/bx when you buy 4. Just thought I'd throw that out there for ya. I would have struggled with paying that much for what we call 'sugar cereal', too!

My three year old lives on Honey Nut Cheerios. I usually try to buy the store brand or use coupons. I know it's hard to buy cereal with such high prices.

I really like the idea of buying a box of the 'designer, name brand' cereal for birthdays!

At the liquidators today I got three 'boxes' of cereal for 99 cents each. Well, the actual box must have been damaged because it was missing, it's just the bags of cereal that I bought. One appears to be cheerios, another life cereal and the third, a granola of some kind. We'll mix the granola with the cheerios. That sweetens the cereal without having to add any more sugar.

hubby likes cold cereal( yuck) so I buy them at Aldi's, Save-A-Lot, and Dollar General. My kids some times are given cereal that their kids won't eat so they pass it on to hubby.

as for buying something ..buying the really good choc chips for Christmas cookies was such a struggle.I kept telling myself that the candy and cookies is part of their gift from us. I do think I will start buying it in July a little bit at a time..

didn't buy any food this week. Was non-food week OUCH, but I buy for the month instead of weekly

Blessed Be Gayle

On ThursdayDec 3, Kroger is having 50% off selected varieties of Kellog cereal...There were coupons in the paper or you can check Couponmom.com and see if she has any for extra savings....

See..that's why I coupon. I wouldn't pay that much for a box of cereal. I think more then a 1.50 is expensive..but I do fork it over. My kids are lucky..dh and I love sugary cereal. They can have it..but the rule is they have to have something healthy first.

I do love the idea of the junk cereal..because there is some junk stuff I refuse to buy!

If you know which cereal they'll pick for the birthday breakfast, try getting it ahead of time. With sales, promos, and coupons, I never pay more than .50-$1.00 for a box of cereal. The sugary kinds are always even cheaper--sometimes free. I just save those for special occasions or dry snacks in the afternoon.

Gayle hun what in the world were you thinking with the $4 cereal!?! Somebody must have been GOOOOD in your house that day, or you owed them big time! We can usually not get free cereal in my neck of the woods but I can usually manage to get about $1-$1.50 per box, so that's the most I'll pay. Then again, I have no kids so I don't know what I"d refuse them if I did!

Kristin,

As a rule I don't buy cold cereal. The milk alone would be a fortune for six of us. But the rule is when it's a birthday you get to pick the menu all day long...no holds barred. Thus the spendy cereal.

We've been on a sugar and carb high all day long around here.
