Grocery Cart Challenge Recipe Swap

I detest cleaning my shower. The rest of the bathroom stays pretty clean but the shower, I can put off for weeks before I'll give in and scrub it. But I came across a recipe for homemade daily shower cleaner that really works. I started with a good clean shower and now everyday when I get out I spray my shower walls and the liner with this homemade recipe and it keeps the gunk at bay. I also use it on my shower that has a glass door and it keeps it sparkly and clean. It's super cheap and just as good as the expensive store bought kind. So here's the recipe. Try it for yourself and let me know how it compares.

Homemade Daily Shower Spray

2 cups white vinegar
2 tablespoons of dishwasher rinse agent (like jet dry but generic works fine)
water

Mix the vinegar and rinse agent together in a 32 ounce spray bottle. Fill the rest of the way with water. After each shower spray the walls and door (or liner) and walk away. No scrubbing. If you have smooth shower walls you could take the extra step and squeegee it off.

That is a wonderful idea for the shower! I use white vinegar to de-scale my kettle too. Just half fill the kettle with water and then add about a quarter cup of white vinegar. Boil and rinse thoroughly. Then fill the kettle with clear water, boil and rinse a couple more times. It does a really good job without using those expensive chemical de-scalers. Thanks for hosting!

I'm absolutely going to make this! My shower usually goes dirty, I hate cleaning it so much.

I've done this without the jet dry, but I think I might try it your way to see about getting rid of some water spots on the shower door. This really does work to keep the shower clean, though. We have hard water that turns everything yellowish orange after a while, so I used to buy special cleaners that would get rid of the hard water stains. One day I ran out, so I tried vinegar water, and I was shocked that it worked. I only spray the shower down every few days, and it is still build-up free!

I once heard that switching from bar soap to body wash will keep you from getting soap scale in your shower, and IT DOES! I also hated cleaning our showers because it took so much elbow grease to get it clean. But, now I only have to occasionally clean the peach mildew that builds up with time - NO scrubbing.

That's very similar to the recipe we use - it works great!! Better than anything we've ever tried and no nasty fumes. Mine has 2 cups white vinegar, 1/2 cup Jet Dry and 1 teaspoon dish soap.

I do this too but instead of Jet Dry I use a little bit of rubbing alcohol - cheaper and doesn't have all the chemicals.

Oh I am SO going to try this! Like you I put off cleaning that shower as long as possible. I am going to make this cleaner in the morning and start giving it a try!

Gayle, thank you for sharing this. I am one of those frustrated homeowners who dread cleaning the shower. Cleaning everything else in the bathroom is easy but shower is the sore spot. The yellowish orange unsightly stuff is such an eyesore. I'm going to try this and like all your other homemade recipes, it'll probably work. Thank you again for sharing. My husband calls me the house scientist because he doesn't know what I mixed together to make laundry detergent, homemade dryer sheets, etc., etc. :-)

I made this recipe but it smells so strongly of vinegar! I am going to keep using it but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?
