Money Saving Links

I've got some good money saving places for you to visit today.

  • Having a well sealed, insulated home can save you tons of money each year but it costs a lot to have a professional come out to your home to do an energy assessment. Go HERE to find a detailed instructions on how to do your own money saving energy assessment. Now's the perfect time to do before the cold days hit.
  • Before you throw it away check out this page to see if you can re purpose it in some way. The page is full of great ideas.
  • I am drooling over getting my very first kindle but since I'm not much of a book buyer (kinda frugal here) I'm worried about the cost of buying all those books. If anyone has any money saving ideas on how to get kindle books cheap (I already know that older books are free...I'm talking a SUPER DEAL) please let me know.

I have the Nook and am able to download from my public library. When I was researching which reader to get (Nook vs Kindle) I saw that the only reader that allowed downloads from the library was the Nook. I don't know if that has changed, but maybe it's a factor for you.

I would stay away from The Novel Network. See http://www.bluearchipelagoreviews.com/kindlereview/caught-scam-free-kindle-downloads/

I second the library idea. The Washington Anytime Library is your source for our area. See http://nwwanytime.lib.overdrive.com.

For a list of compatible devices, see http://www.overdrive.com/resources/drc/Default.aspx?type=ebook.

I don't believe the Kindle is listed, but I have heard rumors that library compatibility is in the near future. I have a Nook Color, though, and love it.

Happy Reading!

I also have a Nook and love it, (my mother has a kindle and wishes she had the Nook). Like the other posters stated you can download books for FREE from the library. Nook also has a Free Friday program where the give you a new book each Friday to download if you want. I also browse for new books frequently by typing 0.00 and whatever keyword I want to help me find books that may interest me. For example "0.00 Mystery" you may have weed through some junk but you can find dome real gems by some lesser known or up and coming authors. I read 1-2 books a week and I have only paid for 5 books since getting my nook in December. I still have over 200+ books downloaded and waiting to be read. Another good resource to find free books is smashwords, oh and I almost forgot, you can stalk Amazons website for their top 100 free books. They update hourly and a lot of the time they are free for the nook as well. Hope this helps, good luck! BTW. I am in no way affiliated with Barnes and Noble or the Nook, I just really love my Nook!

If you go onto the amazon site, under the ebooks section of the kindle store, you can go all the way over to the right hand side and see the top 100 free ebooks of the day. Also they have the top free ebooks for each category, i.e mystery, nonfiction... etc.

also www.kindleworld.blogspot.com has links to the most recent free kindle books available.

I love my kindle and love finding all sorts of new books that are available for free!

Amazon often puts Kindle books on sale. I have had a Kindle for only a few months and I have already seen two big sales (with different titles on sale). They mark books down to $0.99. $1.99, and $2.99. The major problem is that I never get notice for these sales -- I have to look on Amazon's website to know they are happening. The sales usually last a week.

I do not like that the Kindle is not able to accept library books. We are planning on purchasing a Nook for my husband for Christmas. The main reason I decided to get a Kindle was that my aunt has one, and she is able to lend books to others who have Kindles. This has saved me a lot of money.

Oh, honey, you will not BELIEVE the number of free books on Kindle. I am a VORACIOUS reader and I can't keep up with all my free downloads. And these are very well-written books! Of over 100 I've downloaded so far there has only been ONE that i started and said, "This is awful, I'm not reading this!" I'll send you links to the blogs I follow that regularly post lists of free books. Also, on the Amazon Kindle page there is a list of "top 100 free Kindle downloads". And if you look at the other "top 100 downloads" list many of them are 99 cents or $1.99. AMAZING. As a reader, buying a Kindle was the best frugal move I've ever made :)

I have a Kindle and love it. I do have to watch downloading books for it budget-wise. It's easy to spend money if you want to, but I love getting amazon giftcards and having book money. ;)

Later this year, Amazon is launching a book lending service for libraries for the Kindle.

There are tons of free and inexpensive books for the Kindle. My experience with them has been mixed...good and bad. But there are LOTS of free and inexpensive titles, and books are often promoted with a short-term, very cheap sale.

It is so easy to use and read a Kindle. You can carry around a bunch of books in your purse in one small package. What's not to like?

I've saved money since getting my Kindle last year for my birthday! There are lots of websites that will list free or very cheap (under $2) books! I've read some authors that I normally wouldn't have read, just because they offered their book for free! My favorite site is http://fkbt.wordpress.com/
