Homemade Pam (Nonstick Coating For Baking)

I love Pam nonstick cooking spray but I really want to shave the expense of it out of my grocery budget so I can get edible food with my bucks. It also kind of grosses me out everytime I use it because it feels like I’m spraying chemicals in my food. So I came across this recipe and it works even better! I love it!

½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup vegetable shortening
½ cup flour

Beat with mixer until it becomes white and fluffy. Store in an airtight container in your cupboard until ready to use. Brush onto your pan with a pastry or silicone brush. Your stuff will NEVER stick again.

All credit goes to THIS lady.

I used to make this exact stuff when I used to work for the school district cafeteria, and I had forgotten how to make it. WONDERFUL stuff! Thank you for posting the recipe. :-)

Thank you SO much for sharing this!! I go through Pam so quickly, and I hate spending the money on this. I am just about out, so I am going to give this a try!

I am TOTALLY intrigued by this!
A few questions:
1. approximately what kind of shelf life would you guess that this has? the same as if the ingredients were kept separate?
2. If I wanted to make an olive oil or canola oil spray, would I just switch out the vegetable oil but keep the vegetable shortening?

Thanks so much! I had no idea this was possible!

How funny! I was telling my hubby about your frugal ways this weekend and how impressed I was. And after that he said we could save by not buying cooking spray and he also says it not good for you with the chemical content and he is a Ph.D Chemist. So, I was just going to brush oil on my pans before cooking but now I have this better solution - Thanks again!

Oh and I'll blog it later but I have a recipe to make your own bubbles for the kiddos out of Joy dish detergent, a little karo syrup, and water. It works great and is cheeper!

Thanks for the recipe. My friend gave me this one.
2 sticks of butter, 1 cup of olive oil (NOT extra virgin)
Spin in your blender and now you have a soft speadable butter without the other "stuff" in it.
