Looks like once again, you got alot of stuff for your $$ :) And $10/person/week is good!! Where'd you get a coupon for chicken legs? I've never seen coupons for fresh meat.

I managed a $60.66 week and was thrilled after weeks of averaging $85/week. The biggest difference for me was to plan a menu that utilized my pantry and freezer for at least half of the meals.

So, please keep your tips coming. I'm using them, and it's helping our budget.

You pick the yummiest breakfast recipes! I need to try some of them. Do you make one of these each morning?

I had no idea you could bake falafel patties in the crockpot like that--I will definitely try it.

BTW, are you substituting something for that cream in the scones recipe?

I am wondering how you get a homemade breakfast made every morning before you start homeschool and Hubby goes to work. Do you get up extra early or do you do prep the night before?
Around here I'm scrambling to make instant oatmeal with coffee pot water.

In answer to Jenny's Vegcafe, We dont' start school until 8:30 so I get up about 6:30 to exercise and shower and then 7:30 I start making breakfast. Hubby's commute is very short....he works from his home office in the basement so I usually deliver breakfast to him downstairs.

In answer to Mama Squirrels question: I use powdered milk for the cream. Instead of 1/4 powder to 1 cup of water for the low fat milk mixture I use a 1/2 to 1 cup ratio.

I hope you don't mind if I've been "borrowing" your recipes :) I have some sad looking potatoes hiding under my sink, so I will try your potato chowder with them. And we were given 2 apples the other day, so I want to try the Apple Pie Muffins, and the Oat-Nut Scones... I figure if you're making them, and your kids like them, then I can considered the recipes "tried 'n' true!" by a "real" source, not just a magazine or cookbook page. LOL. And thanks for the tip about powdered milk in the scones - I wondered if I was going to have to buy 1/2'n'1/2. Thanks for taking the time to link to the recipes!

I can't wait to try the amish oatmeal. After my son turned 5 "oapmeal" all of a sudden became disgusting. Hopefully, if I tell him it tastes like a cookie he'll eat it.

Hi Gayle,

I'm new to your site (just found it yesterday) and I'm loving your planning and your menus! I've been reading through your archives, and noticed that you try to plan your menus/shopping based on what you already have at home (I do that too).

Just wondering when you buy your meat? Do you have a large stockpile in your freezer? If so, how did that figure in to your weekly totals (once upon a time, when you bought it)?

Thanks for any advice, this site has already been a blessing to me as I try to lower our grocery bill!
