Weekly Shopping Trip

It took four wheel drive and chains to get to the grocery store this week. It felt like a grand adventure but it wasn't so fun to push a grocery cart through 4 inches of snow. I have a lot of abnormal items in my cart today. I'm chalking it up to all the special food during the holidays. Usually tortilla chips and the like don't find there way into my shopping bags very often.

3 loaves of bread and 2 bags of cinnamon bagels $4.70

2 cans chili $1.18
dish soap $.99
starbucks whole bean coffee $3.49

Tortilla Chips $2.99
4 boxes Mac & Cheese $1.00
Whole 7 lb chicken $6.35
Salsa $1.29
Mayo $1.49
9 chicken legs $2.92
Hand sanitizer $1.99
Shampoo $.99
Conditioner $.99

6 lb bulk unbleached flour $1.93
2 liter pop $.68
1 lb bulk chocolate chips $2.33
1 lb bulk pretzels $2.00
Hair Color $2.96
Margarine $.78
2 lb cheddar $5.68
Sour Cream $1.68
3 cans tuna $1.74
5 lbs sugar $2.38
2 1/2 lbs bananas $1.39
2 1/2 lbs apples $1.28

Grand Total $55.21
I happened to find a whole chicken with a $1 off coupon as well as some chicken legs for another $1 off. I don't need them this week, but since they fit into my budget I purchased them to stick in the freezer for another week. That's usually how my meat purchases work. And then in future weeks I'll use them to base my menu's around.

I am buying 4 bags of boneless, skinless chicken breasts today (3lbs each) for $3.99 a bag. I was inspired by you to look for the bargains. That will feed Bob and I for a while!

I love reading your blog. It is inspiring. But my comment is about recipezaar. I was looking up a recipe today and guess whose face was peeking out from chef of the day. Made me double take. Congrats on that as well.

I just found your blog yesterday, after catching you on the $5 dinnere blog. I must say I am sooooooo impressed! WE seem to have families of the same size and age, but your doing so much better than I! We get paid every two weeks, so more challenging, but we use to spend about $400 every two weeks for everything - food, pets, paper, health and beauty. I just recently got that number down to $260 every two weeks and was so proud of myself. Then I see your blog and . . .

Anyway, you are so lucky to find such low prices. Here in middle TN the prices seem to be quit a bit higher. But you and Erin inspire me to keep trying!

Blessings, Beth Ann
