Free Entertainement!

You know, I just love free stuff.

If you haven't heard about it yet, Regal Cinemas does a wonderful thing for nine weeks during the summers. Every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 10 AM they have free kids movies. It's first come, first serve but it's FREE! It starts in June so go HERE to get all the details and to see if there is a participating theatre in your area. Then mark your calenders and stuff your purse full of dollar store goodies (because it costs too stinking much to buy their stuff) and enjoy a family movie.

If it's a FREE movie, I would think the right thing to do would be to buy the movie theatre's snacks, if needed, because it obviously costs them something to show the movie. Sneaking in snacks isn't something I'd want to teach my kids.

I saw that on another blog but I don't see the Longview or Kelso theaters on there - bummer. :-(

i wish that i could buy food that cheap here in manitoba. Our dollarama has some great things food wise but nothing fresh. Oh and while i somewhat agree that sneaking in snacks to a free movie isnt the greatest, you do what you have to when you dont have money.

You rock Gayle! I found two theaters kinda close-a little drive, BUT for free...I'm game! This will be a fun break to beat the heat! Yea! Thanks for the tip!

Anonymous, I disagree with you. The movie is free as a GIMMICK to get you to buy lots of STUFF. This is really where the theater makes their $ anyway. As a frugal family we are trying to BEAT the system. Even if it means not playing fair in some cases. After all, bringing in your own snacks may be AGAINST THEIR POLICIES, but it is by no means ILLEGAL. Just politically and socially incorrect. Frankly I don't really care about what is politically and socially acceptable. I care about WHAT IS BEST FOR MY FAMILY. I would simply explain to my kids that we were doing it for $-saving reasons and that the theater people would not like it (they want us to buy their over priced stuff) so we will not talk about it. It's not situational ethics, it is PRACTICALITY.

I make my own popcorn on the stove to bring. Healthier than movie theater stuff. And maybe against policy, but do you really want to give your kids heart attacks with all the movie theater popcorn butter and junk? If only they sold healthy snacks that were appropriate for kids. :)

Also, I had a friend (way back in high school) who worked for Lowe's. They advertised themselves as the friendly theater. He told me that what that meant was you could bring in your own food, but they didn't want to advertise that. When we were dating my hubby and I used to bring in stinky fast food in the bags and everything and no one said anything. I don't know if this is still their policy though.

I Have always taken my own snacks and been very obvious about it. No one has ever said anything. With my kids allergies they don't want us eating their food.
Blessings,
Dawn
