Well, if this isn't the ultimate in recycling I don't know what is. Nike has a program where you donate your old worn out tennis shoes, they grind them up and then reuse them to make sports surfaces and other consumer products. You can read more about it here.

Great links! The totes are adorable! I might just have to dust off my sewing machine and give this a try. I went to a class year's ago and made a denim bag that's outlasted every other store-bought bag I've had since then.

I have made several of the totes that you linked to. They turn out very nice. I have given a couple as gifts myself. Her tip about the fabric to use is the key, I think. They take less than an hour to make, and I'm not a speedy sewer.

I'm visiting your blog now each week (I think I saw a link on moneysavingmom). About the Nike shoes donations. They can call it "recycling" all they want, but I say we all band together and charge them a "processing fee" to take back our shoes! HeeHee.
