This tip is more indirectly frugal because, hey, time is money right? And the time it takes to clean up a mess could be better spent making a meal from scratch or shopping the sale rack at the local grocery store. So on that note, here's my Works For Me Wednesday tip for this week.
Do you use liquid laundry detergent with the little dispenser cup? I make a homemade version and a use a 1/2 cup scoop to dispense it into my laundry tub. But that little cup gets gooey and drippy and gross after just a few uses. Plus I can never get every drip of laundry soap out.
So one day I dumped the soap in the laundry tub and the cup slipped out of my fingers and into the path of the water as it filled up. I decided to just leave it there rather than fish it out. And you know what? The dispenser went through the wash, used every little drop of soap, and came out clean when it was all over. No sticky goo. No wasted soap. No slimy fingers.
So now I do it on purpose.
That's what Works For Me. Anybody else have the same problem?

Wish it worked on the HE washers too... they have a special area for detergents, etc.
Great idea!
Hey Suz,
Can you put the soap into the "special area throw the cup in shut door and turn on washer. I did this when I lived in England and had a front loading washer. I haven't use any of the American ones
With my HE washer I pour the detergent in the dispenser, but then I toss the cup in with the wash. It doesn't take care of all the spills, but it keeps the cup nice a slime free.
Genius! Why does this spelling not look right? I'm too lazy to go look it up if it is not. If OK, wow, what a speller, if not, forgive me, the sentiment is the same. It is looking better the longer I look. Now, I've typed so much I could have looked it up three times and now just won't because I'd have to erase all this typing so let me leave it at...
good idea!

I do believe Tide used to recommend tossing the cup in along with the wash right on the bottle! I haven't done it since we switched to a front-loader... It seems harder for some reason. LOL!
I have an HE as well and have been tossing the cup in the drum for the last year. I hate the mess that was left on the top of the washer from the detergent. I add baking soda and vinegar in the dispenser, though.
I've tossed the cup in with my was for a long time .... just have to remember to fish it out when the clothes go in the wash!
I have started putting my laundry soap into old milk jugs. I can just pour it into the wash. It just takes a couple of loads pouring it into the cup to figure out how much is the right amount. Plus I can shake it up to break up the clumps.
I alawys throw the dispener cup in with my wash...it happend by "accident"as well.
I always pour in the soap as the water runs, then rinse the cup out with the running water. Thanks for the great tip!!
Oh my goodness! Absolutely brilliant! I got a front loader about a year ago, and that goopy cup has been driving my nuts ever since. This is a great solution.
You always have the best tips. Thank you!
Jenelle
What a happy accident!
