good recipes- I use some of the same. I felt exactly the same way as you about Mrs Ingalls- she was awesome- reminded me of my mom.

Great article! I need to just start doing this.....we are bread eaters and it's tiring trying to find the best price on bread! ; )

Thank you!

Great introductory article for baking your own bread! I have to ask, though - if you can make your own bread for around 45 cents a loaf, why buy it at the bread store for almost a dollar a loaf? I used to make my own bread, but a wrist injury stopped that. I'm looking for a good used bread machine to do my kneading. Homemade is so much better - no unpronounceable ingredients! =)

My mom always told me I was born in the wrong era....I have always loved being home with my kids and being a homemaker. I began making my own bread many years ago, with one infamous "lead bread". Tho my husband admits that as heavy as it was, it still tasted great. Now I make bread on a regular basis. Cheaper, tastes better than anything I can buy, and I know what goes in it.
Great article...very encouraging to those who might find bread making a bit intimidating.

Hey, thanks for passing this on. Do you mind if I link this to my blog, frugalful.blogspot.com ? I want to keep it in front of my face so I can remember my goal of making bread. I too get tired of trying to find a good deal on bread. It is one of the higher expenses in my budget. Thanks again. Can't wait to try them.

Cathy,

It's purely a preference thing. I make our rolls and specialty breads myself. But when it comes to sliced bread for toast or sandwiches, we prefer store bought. Even buying 3 - 5 loaves of sliced bread per week I'm still making bread at least 2 more times per week and it all gets consumed.

I love my bread machine too though I haven't used it lately! The rolls (recipe given) are wonderful! (but last time my husband cooked them too long and it wasn't as good)

Growing up we always had some type of homemade bread...loaf bread, rolls, biscuits, cornbread. If Mother placed store brought bread on the table my Dad called it lightbread and grumbled the whole time eating it. When Rich and I was first married we had dinner at their home. Dad told Rich he was sorry that all we had to eat was lightbread tonight. Rich didn't know what Dad meant......as the bread looked like what his Mom had served everyday. I had to later explain to him that it was unusual to have store bought bread for dinner at home.
