Grocery Cart Challenge Recipe Swap - Microwave Cleaner

My microwave is always yucky. Six people of varying skill levels use it. It regularly has exploded beans or butter crusted on the walls or anything that the kids tried to cook and forgot to cover. And yes, I admit, sometimes it sits there for a week before I remember to clean it out. So it's hard and crusty and stuck tight. This simple recipe leaves nothing in it's tracks. Everything comes off fast plus there are no chemicals stuck in your microwave and it's super cheap and smells good. Try it and tell me what you think.

Simple Microwave Cleaner

1 cup water
1 tablespoon of lemon juice or a few lemon slices for scent

Cook water in microwave until it boils for at least 30 seconds. For me that's about 4 minutes. Leave in microwave for about 15 minutes. Remove boiling water and wipe down ceiling of walls and microwave. Everything should wipe right off with minimal scrubbing.

Thanks for that recipe! I needed it real bad, now I'm going to go put it to the test!

I've used the same method, but with vinegar and it works well. The smell of the vinegar is gone in no time, and it really gets rid of that aweful "microwave smell."

What a great microwave cleaner! I still remember those days in college when I cleaned the inside of the microwave with 409! I shuddered to think about all the chemicals I ate!

I guess I really do have to clean the microwave today. It is beyond disgusting. I'm pretty sure I've some experiments going on.

I bet that smells much better than the vinegar I use. I will have to give it a try. Thanks for hosting!

I kill two birds with one stone while cleaning my microwave. I get all my wet sponges and wash them with dish soap, rinse them good, leave them wet then stick them in the micro. Set it for 2-3 minutes, then let it sit another 2-3 minutes. My sponges smell fresh and my microwave can be easily wiped down as all the stuck on gunk is now steamed and softened. :)
