Lookee What I Made - Homemade Soap

Last October I got this great notion in my head to make homemade soap for Christmas presents. I found what looked like an easy crockpot soap-making tutorial and went out and bought all the ingredients. But honestly....the lye and the chemical process freaked me out. So it all just sat there for months.

Until....

A friend decided to teach me how to do it. So last night, with the help of my friends Stephanie and Mandy I actually made homemade soap. It's a Castille soap (olive oil) with goats milk, honey and oatmeal. It smells like a yummy oatmeal cookie and I'm so proud of myself. And the funny thing, my kids are begging to wash with it because it smells so good. We're going to be the cleanest family EVER until the newness wears off.

As soon as I've done a few more batches and feel a little more experienced I'll put up a picture tutorial so you can give it a try at home.

They look beautiful - congratulations! Looking forward to seeing a tutorial. The chemicals also freak me out so I've never tried it either.

Your soap looks great! I have always wanted to try making my own but I let the lye scare me. I would love nothing more than making my own goat milk soap... I can almost smell it now... :)

For some reason I read this whole post as soUp instead of soAp and was wondering why on earth you would make soap involving lye and a chemical process lol

The soAp looks lovely!

I can't wait for your tutorial! I tried making goat's milk soap with honey and oatmeal and it didn't look anythink like yours! It was such a mess. I accidently scalded the milk and it smelled terrible. Congratulations on your successful 1st batch!

Great job! I have had a soap book for years, but I am waiting until my kids are just a bit older to try that hobby. Enjoy it!

Wow! I'm impressed! Please do post a tutorial when you an. I use to buy handmade soap from Sungold soap and now they seem to be out of business. I have super sensitive skin and want to get back to gentler soap. I think I would like to do this but am intimidated as you were.

Warning, soap making is an addicting hobby. I started making soap 12 years ago because of my daughters eczema. Now store bought soap seems terrible. Congrats, it looks yummy. Oatmeal milk and honey is our favorite. I use powdered goats milk.
