Grocery Cart Challenge Recipe Swap

I'm just a little bit excited about the recipe this week. It's one of those things that just goes to show that there isn't ANYTHING that you can't make at home. It's gummy worms! These little guys are so easy and so fun to make with your kids. And if you're trying to watch your kids (or your) sugar intake, these are also sugar free.

Gummy Worms

1 3oz box of sugar free jello
5 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup water

Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan until it resembles play dough. Heat over low until melted. Once completely melted pour into 8 x 8 greased pan and freeze for 5 minutes. When very firm tip pan upside down to remove and then cut with a pizza cutter into wormy strips. They won't last long.

Those sound cute! But, are you able to get the two/toned colors like in this picture? Somehow?

This looks like a LOT of fun! I'm wondering though, how do you get the two toned color like in the picture?

Stupid question, but how do you get the colour variations? Or was that just for the photo?

Thank you! Our daughter has nut allergies and it's really hard to trust "candy." You just never know, even thought it's suppose to say on the package. These sound fun and easy to make!

Thanks so much for this recipe! It will be so much fun to surprise my son with these!

The two toned colors are made by making two separate colored batches. Let the first batch set for about a minute in the freezer in the dish and then gently swirl in the next color and finish setting. Then they look like the real thing.

How funny! I just stumbled upon a blog the other day that had a recipe for gummy candies. I'd never even thought to make them before--but knew that I definitely needed to try it. i think I like the gummy worms idea better. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I saw this recipe yesterday and tried it today. Loved by everyone, but I have two questions. How do you store them? I am assuming refrigerator. Yours look like they are clear like jello whereas mine were more opaque. What did I do wrong? Didn't affect the flavor, but just curious.

So I was at the store to get the ingredients and the sugar free jello are not 3 oz boxes--they are .44 oz. The sugar kind is 3 oz., so by about how much would you reduce the water do you think?

Jackie,

I never even noticed. I used the same amount of water with the larger sugar free size and it came out just fine. Sorry about the mix up.
