From Aliisa:
Wow!! You did an incredible job, congrats. Im really looking forward to seeing what you make homemade. BTW, I made that Cabbage Casserole that you had on your menu last month and we loved it!! Thanks for the recipe!!

oh..and I made the laundry soap. I gave some to a friend to try and we both loved it!! In fact, we are now trading. She buys the ingredients and I make her laundry soap in exchange for babysitting....its wonderful!!!

Does your family ever eat salad? How does the cost of salad work into your grocery budget??

Gayle said...

Hi Georgi,

We do eat salad. Right now I've got a garden producing lettuce and tomatoes. Last week (i think) I bought cucumbers and green peppers. So I have salad on the menu once this week. My family isn't real big on green salad so I don't have it very often. Sometimes I'll just marinate fresh veggies in italian dressing and we'll use that as salad. But alot of times we just eat cooked veggies or I sneak veggies into our soups and sauces.

Great job. Do your salvage groceries also carry personal care products like deodorant and shampoo?

Gayle said...

Jenny,

Yes our salvage grocery does care things like deoderant, shampoo, TP hair color, cosmetics...all that stuff.

I was wondering if you have noticed an increase in the prices of groceries lately? I shop weekly and I was astonished this past weekend with how much the prices have gone up. I have a child with allergies and we are only able to use certain brands, etc so my budget is going to have to change even more. Thanks for the updates. I really enjoy reading BOTH of your blogs! Hi Rhonda,

Yes I've noticed the prices going up and it's freaking me out! I buy a lot of margarine sticks for baking and it's gone from $.68 to almost $1 for 4 sticks of margarine.
