Homemade mayonnaise sounds complicated but not only is it simple and super cheap but it tastes so much better than the kind in a jar. Here's the recipe we use around here.
Homemade Mayo
1 whole egg
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 cup canola oil
1 dash paprika
*Recipe makes 1-1/4 cups mayonnaise.
In blender, add egg, dry mustard, vinegar, paprika and 1/4 cup oil and blend on low 1-2 minutes.
Turn blender off, and scrape sides down. Turn blender on, and while it is running, slowly add the remaining 3/4 cups oil. Blend until the consistency of mayonnaise. Refrigerate in non-reactive container.

*** I've had a lot of people ask how long this keeps and mine usually lasts about a week.

How long does the mayo last in the frig? Thanks for the recipe!
I have to admit, I've never tried homemade mayonnaise - but this sounds like a great recipe so perhaps I'll have a go! Thanks for hosting!
Sorry I goofed on #10---that is going to my recipes (all of them, instead of just my Tater tot casserole!) Tater Tot casserole is my first one recipe on there, I'll re-link with the right link...so sorry!
I tried this before and it was disgusting. I wonder if I added the oil too quickly?
I'm new to this making everything from scratch so I have 2 questions that might seem pretty basic to you!!
1. What is a non-reactive container?
2. I have little ones...can you give them something with a raw egg in it?
Thanks in advance...I'd love to try this recipe!
I'm going to try this recipe. I had a different one and it wasn't so great. My husband eats mayo with everything! I think i buy a jar a month.
Thanks for posting the recipe. I ran out of mayo yesterday and needed some for sandwiches for lunch. I saw your post this morning, you saved me a trip to the store.
Oh, thank you for the recipe! I added dry mustard to my grocery list. It's tempting to run out to the store and buy some right now! I've made homemade syrup, butter spread, and taco seasoning from scratch in the last 24 hours and was looking for something new to try!
