What About Lunches And Snacks?

I get asked this question a lot...

I'm new to this site and am very interested in what you are doing because we spend WAY too much! Please link me if you have already posted this stuff, but what do you do for lunches? And I noticed you don't by any snack stuff, do you guys snack? Thanks in advance!

Right up there next to being frugal are a few of my other talents like "not exerting too much effort" and "keeping it simple". Lunches fall into all three of those categories.

Since I put a lot of effort into planning and cooking two good meals a day, I afford myself the luxury of a brainless lunch. It usually consists of leftovers, letting the kids get creative or if I'm really feeling loving I'll slap a lunch together that consists of pickles, hard boiled eggs, fruit, slices of cheese, bagels, or some other effortless assortment of food. My husband works from home so unless he's at a clients house for an appointment he usually eats some sort of leftovers also.

If you need to pack a lunch I have some great ideas HERE.

As for snacks...we really like to snack! I've done a post HERE about snack ideas. We also like scoops of peanut butter and a handful of chocolate chips, homemade microwave popcorn, a quick batch of brownies, sliced bananas with soy milk (or cow milk if we have it) and cinnamon sprinkled over the top, yogurt, or muffins that I've stashed in the freezer.

Basically I don't buy snack food, I make it.

So, great question. I love getting them so don't hesitate to ask.

Funny, I do the exact same thing, same lunch and snack philosophy, big breakfast, big dinner and my hubby works from home most often as well. I also have 4 kids, all boys! I have been enjoying reading your blog!!
