Menu Plan Monday

Well it's time to pull out the big guns. Remember that giant turkey I got for $4 in November? It's coming out this week.

I also found out that my bread machine has a jam setting so I'll be trying some homemade jam for Sunday mornings breakfast.

And....for any of you that are making the homemade yogurt, I've refined my recipe a bit. I add about 1/4 cup more of powdered milk (makes it thicker like store bought) and I incubate it by setting a heating pad on my counter to low, setting my jar of yogurt mix on top of the heating pad and then putting a large pot over the top to make a mini heater. That way I don't tie up my oven for hours. It works perfectly and took exactly four hours. When I used the oven light and less powdered milk it took at least 8 hours to set up.

Breakfasts

Oatmeal
Poached Eggs and Toast
Pancakes
Jam on Toast, Bananas

Dinners

Date Night with Hubs (woohoo)
Leftovers
Check back tomorrow to see how the shopping trip went and to link up your own trip. It's so much fun to see what you all are buying each week.

Do you think that I could use my crockpot on low to incubate the yogurt? I would love to try it?

My family loves those Buttery Bread Machine Rolls. I got the recipe from Motherload blog a while ago. I make them ahead of time, freeze them and take out what is needed for our meal. That way, I always have them on hand. . . hot and ready. Great with a bowl of soup too.

Blessings,

Sher

Katherine,

Yes you CAN use your crockpot. Here's a link to how you can do it.

I'm roasting a turkey this week too! I'll take a look at your casserole and soup recipes, they sound interesting.

Ooo, Katherine, the crockpot idea might be a good one.

I am looking forward to seeing your shopping goodies tomorrow. One day I'll do this too, except I am really poor at this, so it will be to have a good laugh at my expense!

Gayle, that's exactly how I've made my yogurt (except I wrap the jar in a towel before putting the pot on top) for years, and I've never had a failed batch. And I looked at that same recipe for Lemon Yogurt Muffins last night, but didn't have the lemon, so I made the Apple Yogurt ones I found and they are quite good! Great minds think alike! ;-)

Do you get cabbage from your garden? I noticed hat you eat a lot of cabbage. Also, how do you get your kids to eat such a variety? I've got the world's pickiest kid, and another so-so-one, plus a picky husband. They're going ba in a world of hurt if this economy gets any worse. Well, no, they'll eat ramen!! LOL

We do grow cabbage in our garden but this head is leftover from last weeks menu. The recipe I had planned for last week didn't get cooked because I had run out of flour for the Runza dough. So now it's getting carried over to this week.

I find the best recipes on your blog! I am addicted to the Vanilla Granola from a few weeks ago, and I am dying to try the granola bars and lemon muffins! Thanks for a great blog!

Your menus always sound wonderful. Those granola bars sound really yummy!

I love the name Thanksgiving Memories- I am going to use that instead of turkey pot pie, or shepherd's pie or whatever I make to use up leftover turkey- I don't think I will trick my kids though, but it is worth a try. Probably if I added the stove top like in the recipe, they would be more enthused. Lots of nummy sounding menu plans here today Gayle! Have fun shopping.

I haven't seen the yogurt recipe before, so I'm totally excited now!

Gail, I was inspired by your recipe link for homemade granola bars and made my own this morning before the kids got up. I posted the revamped recipe on my blog (I made it a little more healthy)...thanks for the inspiration. www.saveadimein09.blogspot.com

Sounds yummy, I love homemade yogurt as well.

I am going to have to try the leftover thanksgiving casserole, but with sweet potatoes, yum!

What kind of bread machine do you have? I am in the market to get one.

Hi there! I am a first timer to your blog, found you through your link on "I'm an organizing junkie blog." I am always up for another great recipe blog!

My friends and I have started a blog called meal planning mommies. We post a meal plan weekly and recipes each day w/ instructional pictures and directions for each recipe. Maybe it would be useful to you in your future meal planning!

We are also accepting guest posts and would love if you would want to post a great breakfast/dinner recipe. We would absolutely link back to your blog.

Glad to have found your site!

The Breakfast Pudding sounds a bit complicated for first thing in the morning without any coffee--are you streamlining it any?

Gayle said...

No streamlining. I just really like breakfast so I'm willing to do it. It's lunches I hate and just slap together or make the kids do it themselves. I bet you could put it together the night before and stick it in the fridge till morning, though.

We just pulled out our enormous turkey and roasted it this week, too! My favorite after turkey soup is After-Thanksgiving-Turkey Soup. I've been salivating at the mere thought and the broth is bubbling away on the stove as I type. Mmmmm....

I'm totally going to make the Baked Polenta recipe. I have a tube of premade stuff from Trader Joe's that I bought for some reason I can't remember and my husband will eat anything with feta in it. Can you post an update on how your family receives it? I get the best ideas from your blog!

Hi,

Love your blog!

I just made the no bake granola bars. They are great. However, When I cut them, many of them fell apart. Have you ever had this problem?

Any advice would be helpful!

Warm Regards,
